A better way to publish

Basikly is revolutionizing print production by making it faster, smarter, and more cost-effective.

Basikly is an innovative production solution that gives publishers the power to create next-generation print and digital replica products quicker and at significantly lower cost.

Created by Advance Local, a leading news and information media company, Basikly combines an easy-to-use web app with a plug-in for Adobe InDesign to build pages efficiently and with blazing speed without compromising on visual appeal.

Basikly grew out of a desire to remove the obstacles of big, cumbersome software and become faster and more relevant to an agile daily operation.

Designers, users, and engineers collaborated to automate most of the redundant and mechanical tasks involved in creating pages, allowing teams to increase productivity by as much as 600%.

Ease of use reduces formal training needs to a few hours, compared to big software that can take weeks to learn.

And because the package was built with fewer database restrictions, product development is both simplified and accelerated, making it easier to keep adding new features that constantly improve and expand the daily user experience.

“As business leaders, we knew we had to streamline publishing operations to meet challenging budget goals. But as designers, we didn’t want to compromise the readability, variety, and sophisticated look our users expect. We created Basikly to accomplish both objectives—to reduce costs and maintain a crisp-looking product every day.

Choose your own CMS
Use whatever platform you like to create content; Basikly isn’t tied to a proprietary front-end tool. Any content feeds can be set up to flow seamlessly into Basikly’s production environment.

Basikly app
The web app, which runs on Amazon Web Services and is backed up in multiple data centers, is where content is organized and prepared for publication.

Basikly plugin
The plugin allows the Basikly app to manage and build pages directly in InDesign, Adobe’s industry standard for print design.

No bandwidth lag
Basikly is structured so InDesign runs on local desktops for optimal responsiveness. Using Basikly’s instructions, the Adobe platform automatically builds articles, places ad layouts, and outputs finished pages.

Output queues
Basikly output is flexible enough to meet any format requirements. Send any number of pages at one time to print, digital, or both.

“Basikly has helped Advance Local produce printed newspapers and digital replicas with just 40 percent of the original staff without reducing the volume of products or pages. In fact, new digital-only sections have increased our overall volume by 1,500 pages per week—an increase entirely absorbed within the existing staff.”
